Blue Community Designation
To the Municipality of Prince Edward through the Environmental Advisory Committee (EAC)
WHEREAS the EAC “coordinates information and strategic advice on how PEC could integrate an environmental lens within municipal plans and initiatives to foster sustainability”;
AND WHEREAS the Council’s strategic priorities include “advancing environmental aspects such as fostering waste reduction, reuse and recycling programs”;
AND WHEREAS Prince Edward County's updated Strategic Plan highlights Adapting to Climate Change as one of the seven (7) key Corporate Priorities, which includes” championing the protection of rural habitats and the natural environment and, where possible, reducing the climate impact of our decisions to put the County in the best possible position to adapt to climate change;”
AND WHEREAS it is now more important than ever for all of us to take steps to protect water sources and services, ensuring clean, safe water sources and reliable public services for generations to come;

WE, THE UNDERSIGNED, PETITION THE MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT FOR THE CORPORATION OF THE COUNTY OF PRINCE EDWARD (PEC) to support the idea of a water commons framework, recognizing that water is a shared resource for all, by passing resolutions that:
- Recognize water and sanitation as human rights;
- Ban or phase out the sale of bottled water in municipal facilities and at municipal events; and
- Promote publicly financed, owned, and operated water and wastewater services.
